Thank you for visiting Latch Farm Studios.
My name is Sandra O'Connor and I am based just outside Edinburgh in the beautiful countryside of the Pentland hills in West Lothian, Scotland, surrounded by farmland, moorland and forest. I live here with my husband, my beautiful Large Münsterlander dogs and our lovely old rabbit.
With 23 years experience of working in libraries and resource centres, and as a Lifelong Learning Educational Officer for the online digital resource SCRAN (Scottish Cultural Resource Access Network) and now a childminder, I have a passion for art & craft and also helping people of all ages and levels achieve all that art, craft & technology can offer.

(Plus I'm on hand to provide help and assistance if needed). I love photography and have collections on Alamy and other stock photography sites as well as Redbubble and Zazzle, and on Etsy you can find the mock ups being used in my wall art example images.
Bird Says Tweet cross stitch designs - for stitchers.
I am lucky to be based in a lovely rural spot near Edinburgh with fields on one side and forest on the other. My bird feeders are full of beautiful feathered visitors from morning to night, including woodpeckers, jays, sparrowhawks and a huge variety of little tweets - hence my name Birds Say Tweet for my other Etsy store. My cross stitch designs are beginner to intermediate level and are designed to be fun pick up and put down patterns and are created for you with a smile :)
New designs and cross stitch patterns are always in development so please follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for updates and news.
Please note that currently glass and ceramics are not available from my online store but they are available on products in my Bird Says Tweet Zazzle store.
Creating ceramics and fusing glass is always exciting and completely fascinating, I love to experiment with mixing colours and textures, using dichroic and specialist glass and even painting with glass. The hardest part is waiting till the glass is fully cooked which takes anything from 48 hrs to 72 hrs, and sometimes even longer for some pieces. You never know what will come out of the kiln until you open the lid and discover all your new treasures. I love to create fun art work using ceramics, fused glass and painting in ink & watercolour to make collectable gifts and unique one of a kind jewellery and designer glass art and ceramics.
Everything is handmade, so no two pieces are ever the same, which makes them perfect for collecting. I use specialist glass and materials when designing each piece and use techniques including fusing, kiln forming and hand painting. All glass is hand cut, kiln fired and properly annealed for strength and durability in my home studio. I love to experiment with lots of different clays and glazes to make my fun 'Bird says 'tweet' ceramic collection.
Multi media pictures using ceramics and cut designs are fun to make and look wonderful displayed in a group. These can be personalised with your own text and can be left ready for your own photograph to be added or have a ceramic or paper cut design added. Just get in touch if you have any questions.
The process of using kilns takes a long time and often pieces need to be fired multiple times. Whilst I'm waiting I'm kept busy enjoying watching our local birdlife & wildlife, and walking my dogs who love nothing better than visiting the woods and fields surrounding my home.
